Mallika Srinivasan.

 

Summary:

 

Mallika Srinivasan is an Indian Industrialist. Who is currently working as the CEO of Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE). She received awards like the first business women of the year award by the Economic Times, Entrepreneur of the year in the field of manufacturing from Ernst and Young. She was given the title “Tractor Queen” by the media. The Media also ranked her as the powerful business women.

 

She was born in 1959 in Chennai. She performed well in school and showed keen interest in Economic Principles and Business. She pursued M.A in Econometrics from Madras University. She gor married to Venu Srinivassan, Chairman of the TVS Motor Cycle Company. Mallika decided to pursue M.B.A at the Wharton School at Pennsylvania. Her Mother supported Mallika a lot. Mallika was able to complete her masters in Business Administration because her Mother looked after her infant daughter at her place carefully. She came to India with high hopes to deal with the business management in the industry owned by the family.

 

She did not get good support from her father when she joined TAFE in 1986. She was told by her father she might be a Wharton Graduate, but he did not want somebody to interfere into his business. He explained her that he had expanded his father’s company without any Degree. He also stated that her foreign education did not impress him. Mallika was disappointed. But, she did not lose her heart. She continued to work in the family business by learning some lessons from the seniors and more experienced colleagues. She picked up several tricks of trade from them. With great sincerity and honesty, she talked to them and learnt many tricks in the field of business from the seniors.

 

Slowly, Mallika regained the trust of her Father. She introduced Modern Technology into TAFE. She made the company Manufacture the previous 7000 tractors per year in fifteen days. She made the turn over of the company to increase from Rs 86 crores to Rs 5800 crores by 2010. She expanded the business by acquiring Eicher Motors in 2005. This decision of her made TAFE to scale to the second position in the country.

 

Mallika Srinivasan made use of Economic Downturn also properly. She utilised the Economic Downturn time to deal with research and development. She did in that way in order to introduce new models into the market when it recovers from the down turn. She started a manufacturing plant in Turkey in 2010 to increase TAFE’s market. She began to supply the goods to Africa and made the company of TAFE known globally. She strengthened her tie up with AGCO Corporation, a Georgian based company. Due to all these reasons, Mallika Srinivasan received leadership Award in 2012.

 

Though, Mallika came across explosive growth, she experienced major trials also. She lost her father in 2000. He supported her strongly and helped her to grow her talent on her own. Mallika lost her sister after the death of her father in some months. Mallika’s mother passed away in 2008. Mallika lost her entire family, which was a great source of inspiration for her. Despite, all the odds, Mallika was able to make the company grow to the higher levels with great determination, hard work and commitment. Her life stands as an inspiration not only to her employees but also to all those who wants to achieve something meaningful in their lives based on their talent.
